Every year on 8th March, the world celebrates International Women’s Day. The idea is to pay respect to women, to celebrate their achievements and to highlight their plight across the world.

Yet thousands of years ago, Indian civilisation had already been following the so-claimed modern progressive ideals of gender fairness. We began our blog with a Sanskrit shloka. This is a popular shloka from the Manusmriti. The shloka simply means: Where women are worshipped, Gods remain happy. Where women are disrespected, Gods become unhappy and every task done by people of that place, bears no fruit.

KiddyPi’s Women’s Day Special events (Creative Writing, Coding) celebrated the achievements of iron ladies with kind and caring hearts. Children learnt about the lofty place of women in Indian society and also heard the stirring stories of women achievers (both international and national stalwarts).

Let’s have a glimpse of the Creative Writing event. Stay tuned for a sneak-peek at the coding event.

A Literary Tribute to Women Who Reached Out for the Stars

If we leaf through the history of International Women’s Day, we see a long struggle for women’s rights. Men (yes, several of them!) and women walked side-by-side in their demand for fairness and justice.

Our event began with an interactive session for the children, along with interesting visuals about the day’s background story.

Children wrote about women who are their role models. They participated in quiz contests themed on the legendary women of ancient India, renowned for their strong personality, values, beauty and intelligence.

During this online event, we also wanted to pay a literary homage to India’s Human Computer, Smt. Shakuntala Devi and the first woman Nobel Laureate, Madame Marie Curie.

Children wholeheartedly participated in the event and learned about these stalwarts, their grit and dedication to achieve their dreams against all odds.

Wondering about why we selected topics related to ladies from the STEM world for our event on Creative Writing??

Both our summer camp and regular course on Expression, Creativity & Language break free from the academic siloing of the sciences and the humanities. Our endeavour is to help children communicate their ideas and STEM work in the best possible ways through writing, media and verbal communication.

What will happen if scientists, engineers and mathematicians fail to communicate their ideas verbally, visually or in writing?
